esame Street is popular preschool television show worldwide, filmed and produced in the United States by PBS, or the Public Broadcasting Service. Jim Henson created this with the intention of providing edutainment for young children, and Sesame Street is a show that features both human actors as well as puppets.

It is one of the longest running TV shows for children in history. Sesame Street has won Emmy Awards a number of times, for being ‘the most outstanding pre-school series’. Children all over the world have loved and learned from this iconic TV show. It all began in 1966 when children’s TV education producer Joan Cooney, Cooney’s boss Lewis Freedman, and psychologist Lloyd Morisett began discussions on developing a new TV show for educating preschoolers. It took three years for the final concept to shape up, and the winning addition to it was the puppets made by Jim Henson.

The proper TV debut of the Show happened in 1969, and the world was introduced to everybody’s favorite puppets Ernie, Bert, Big Bird, Gordon, Susan, Bob and Mr. Hooper. The show was first telecast on NET or National Education Television. A few months later, NET entered into a merger with a local station, and PBS picked up its top shows, which included Sesame Street.

Since its first time on air, Sesame Street has seen many alterations in its lineup. An entire family of Muppets has been introduced, and children all over world made some more puppet friends, like Kermit the Frog, Elmo, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Frazzle.

Still, making merry is what the Sesame crew does best, and they succeed here, if on a less brilliant level than we’ve come…

Hideki Okajima, out of uniform, looks on intently as chef Youji Iwakura demonstrates how to spread sushi rice on a sheet of nori, the paper-thin dried seaweed, then sprinkle it with toasted sesame seeds, flip it over, add crab stick, julienned cucumber, and slices of avocado to turn out a California roll.
